Here's an idea to make the site more effective: Allow readers to rate the quality of a post/poster. The average rating of any given post can be displayed on that post. A member's average rating will be displayed under a poster's avatar. This will allow the cream to rise to the top, so to speak.
Also, I'd recommend a sub-forum that is less gear-centric and more info/technique-centric.

This is a great idea but keep in mind that ratings can bring unwanted traffic as well. I still think its +1 if you know how to read through them.
