yes, he did, thanks. he called shortly after i originally posted to the list. maybe you sent him a message, too? anyway, i was just getting ready to reply to the list. at first blush, the issue appears to be related to booting the pc after a full shutdown [the driver was staying healthy throughout simple pc restarts]. that in combo with indirectly cabling to the n12. still unsure exactly how, but the driver was being completely dumped [unlinked, inactivated, something] in the process. simplified the cabling, reinstalled the driver again, and everything seems stable now. i don't anticipate tinkering with the current setup. certainly not over the weekend.
