Sound On Sound magazine did a comparison of the Waves, Sony Oxford and Sound Soap plug-ins in their August issue. This issue also came with a DVD which incorporated sound clips from this comparison. I'd have to say that, judging from the DVD, none of them were particularly impressive considering their price. I'm not sure what else is available on the Mac but I can certainly get better results with the tools built in to Adobe Audition on the PC. Algorithmix, who actually produced the algorithms used in the Waves software, have also done work for companies selling into the consumer market and so it might be worth investigating some of the more consumer oriented restoration software if you want decent value for money.
If you want the best results possible then Cedar is still the way to go.
Cheers.
James.
