Best thing is to audition all the various ways yourself.

But it can be tricky to 'remember' a clock sound you just took down..

Its been said before that people can have 3 second 'goldfish like' memories for sound when doing side by side a/b comparisons..

And it can take way longer than 3 seconds to swap over a clocking configuration!

I like to try to rope in an extra pair of ears to join me when doing these sorts of comparisons, I find that can help...

Its good ear training stuff..

You will be looking for things like..

Depth of sound
Width of sound
Audibility of sub bass
Audibility of reverb decays
Quality of mid range
High frequency extension..
