Yes, the plans called for mass-loaded vinyl between the drywall layers. That's what WSDG uses and apparently they get good results with it. I haven't heard any experts say it's pretty useless. I can't see how adding mass to the wall would be useless (helps cut down low-frequency transmission). I've read one report that says that Green Glue performs better, but that report was written by the company that makes Green Glue!
