i have used the M-Audio BX8's for techno going on 5 yrs and they always fulfilled my techno needs...they have a lot of mid-bass and good low end thump....only recently, since i started mixing bands, have i been dissatisfied......the BX8's are pretty "rock and roll" they color the sound in a good way for listening....for mixing where u need to hear exactly what's going on, i would prefer a little more transparency....especially on distorted guitars..............however if you are mainly running 808/909 and analog synths i would go for the BX8's
