Can I do that with a simple cable, or would I need some kind of conversion box?

P.S. Purpose of this is to output all my pc audio through my monitor speakers. Some programs just won't recognize the mbox driver as an output option, even if its the default (or only) selection in sound properties in the Control Panel.

Thanks!
you need a spdif optical to spdif co-axial conversion box.
