Have you heard the Phoenix? It doesn't impart much in the way of colour it's musical, a little slow, smooth & yet quite clean.

Hear is one we can agree on for all the reasons you mentioned This unit is perfect for dance tracks or just about anything else really. This would be my recommendation to the poster as well, or you could do what I did & get the T.C. Phoenix M.E. & the API 2500 it's a powerful combo.
