I think if you are gonna go for the U87 thing you should go with a vintage 70's or 80's one rather than the AI as I haven't heard many good things about them. I haven't used one myself so take that with a grain of salt. I believe someone is selling a vintage one on the GS classifieds right now. I haven't used a 4060 but I have heard great things about them. I just copped a c800g for a super price and fired that thing up last night and was like whoa. I also have a Wunder CM7-gt and I did a verse with both (2 seperate passes but same mic pre and same distance and volume etc) and I have to say I was very happy. It had a very "mixed" sounding high end to it without being harsh at all. The Wunder was more mid forward but also had some harshness to the sh and ch sounds and wasn't as open on the top. I can post samples of both if anyone's interested. I tracked them through a BA 312a Pre direct into 192 PTHD convertor. Also I think I need a new tube for the C800g as today it started doing a weird distortion intermittent thing, so I have one coming on thursday, might be better to re-do the test and post after the tube swap. Don't know if that just confused things more or not haha.
