I had a behringer once...

it was quiet, but produced a lot of self noise...

Thought that it might be bad electricity, but found out, after buying line voltage controllers, and power conditioners, that it was in fact the behringer that was making the noise.

The sm pre on the other hand had more gain, and it is cleaner too...

I had the ultragain 2200, and it was a waste of time and money, and only gave me headaches...

with the behringer I had to do several takes so I could choose the one with the least amount of noise...

tube gear should sound like it has a tube in it, not just a night light..
