You probably DON'T want to know because at least to me, modular synths are even more overpoweringly adddictive than even 500 series audio gear!
I think it may be because there is a lot more variety of module types, they can all be connected together in many different ways to act as a whole and the average synth module price is quite a bit lower than the average 500 series mic pre or EQ.
