I use a Jecklin disc for recording ambs somewhat regularly. I like the technique, but it's not great for everything. It's very bulky, and wind protection can be a problem, though Omnis suffer less from wind noise than cardioids. I can usually get away with just having the foam windscreens over my mics unless there is a real breeze. It's a useful rig to have in the arsenal.
