Apple's new iPod shuffle has stellar audio performance. In the bass registers, it blows away the competition, including its bigger siblings. I mentioned this in my review of the shuffle, saying that Apple's hard drive players lag behind some newer players in bass performance, but that the shuffle was way better than anything else out there.

... and goes on to talk about the tests he ran on various players when an Apple exec essentially challenged his statement. He also speculates from an electronics design point of view why the much smaller shuffle should have better sound than the other iPods and other players.
It's a good read and made me decide to wait for a player that sounds as good as the Shuffle but allows me to play WMAs and search, select, and sequence.
