if your willing to go 8 in analog, and 8 in digital to analog, you should be able to get your 16 in one take (i dont know if a G3 is up to it but its worth a try), i know its frowned upon here, but the M Audio Octane is up to the task, especially for hip-hop, its not like your recording classical music, a little noise aint gonna hurt : )
as far as actually getting the tracks lined up, i just use MMC and record each track at a time, adjusting the eq and compression settings on the way in.
i just changed my setup and was worried about my m-audio 410 not sounding good, but it sounds WAY better than i expected (drums sound better than they did when i was using a digi001, go figure).
