Have you ever used a 003?
Their converters aren't boutique but they certainly don't sound like "poo".
In fact, the 003 converters are really good for what you are paying. Lots of bass extension, good headroom and while not being the most accurate they definitely have their own thing going on.
The 003 is a great package.
