Here are some snippets of vox recorded with modded mics.
The mp3s labeled. Punk Vox and wusvox dry were both recorded with the same mic.
MXL9000 with Oktava MK319 capsule, Groove Tubes 12AT7 tube and Cinemag CM9711 transformer. 1000pf capacitor upgrade. Grille mod as well.
Both of these takes were recorded with the mic in my hand and a foam windscreen in place, being the lazy butthead I was that day I said F it. I just wanted some ruff takes and they came out better than I expected.
I know beyond a doubt if I used these things with my DIY Reflection filter they would sound alot better, then again just using the stand and shockmount might help haha.
Signal chain was MXL9000 to Yamaha PM1000 racked, hi pass engaged at 80 hertz, eq set to flat > dbx 263x set around 7k grabbing couple dbs off the esses > dbx 163x doing about 6 dbs of GR > ART PRO VLA I attack set to fast, release set to long doing about 5 dbs of GR> Behringer ADA8000 +5 db of gain (I know, but you'd be suprised) > MOTU 2408 MK1 > Cockos Reaper.
I was sick during both of these recordings and stuffy, but still you can see the mic in action.
These clips have no processing on them except the hardware processing (which I always use) and normalizing them to -.1db.
I can post both vocals in mix context too so you see how they sound in full action.
Also here's the C12/251 clone I built. Its an MXL 990 with a Peluso CEK12 capsule, I also modded the grille. This is before I did the Gus Smalley mod to it. The file is called CW24sum snip. The signal chain was the same except I used another channel of PRO VLA to limit the source. Really squish it, sounded good. The mix was sent via 24 channels to my 24 channel summing unit with the Cinemags I keep talking about.
Opinions would be appreciated.
Peace
