I believe the main difference is that the LM-1 allows all drums to be tuned individually, while the LM-2 (AKA Linn Drum) only allows some to be tuned. I don't know if they use the same sample set, I suspect not.

Thanks a lot for your feedback jedilaw, well I wonder if this justify the huge cost difference between both (about 800 $ for an lm2 and 5 k for the lm1), would love to hear a basic lm1 pattern (without processing)....quite difficult to find...
