| There has been quite a few lively posts on the Ampex Forum about the merit of using the 351 electronics' mic pre amp.
The consensus from the "old guard" guys is that it is CALLING a sow's ear a silk purse.
These guys were THERE when they were in day-to-day use and they laugh that people find the sound of something that was the "weakest link" in a piece.
I think the LOOK of those has more to do with the "mystique."
I have had a 351, but I never used it as mic pre-amp.
I have seen them used to "warm up" tracks since the late '80s.
