Here is a theory:
Metallica and crew purposely put this distorted garbage on the market to educate the non-technical audience of the loudness war.
The next Metallica CD will be full of dynamics, it will have sonic superiority over all of all their albums. Everyone will note and the industry will follow.
One can only hope.
