I did a bit of work on a Neversoft (the dev responsible for Guitar Hero) game a while back, and still keep in touch with their number one audio contract guy. Those guys are good at their jobs and know what they're doing. I'm not at all surprised that the GH mix is tremendously better. They wouldn't L2 the shit out of them, it's not their style.
