I've quite enjoyed some of Albini's recordings (early Polly Jean comes to mind!) and I loathe other stuff he's done (Flogging Molly sounds so weak and pathetic it's unlistenable...the production, not the band, methinks...)

I saw Fugazi years ago (yawwwwn) and Ian Mackaye got real pissed when the lighting guys turned on some colored lights. He threw his guitar down and yelled 'White lights only, man!' Like he's somehow above the show-bizness.

Albini reminds me of that when he rails against compressors and limiters (or whatever it is this week.) Get the f*** over it, man! It's signal processing, not automatic weapons. This stuff is supposed to be fun, and when it's a crusade, the work suffers. We're all allowed to make complete 180's in our recording preferences.

How about 'what does the material call for' not 'how can I shoehorn this act into my ideology?'

Maybe he should make some more good records before we forget about his sorry a**.

I was gonna commend cultureofgreed on his avatar; longtime Cronnenberg fan here! Videodrome is a mind-blower. Just saw it a few weeks ago and it still does it for me.
