I'm not a huge synth guy, but a fellow has been bringing a Triton in here a bunch and it's been a pretty nice sounding board. He then brought in the Motif and I didn't think it was a huge step up but maybe it's just what he had programmed in it.

Of course on board features should outweigh sounds as you can add those with outboard, the functions / playability of the board you're stuck with.
