I was literally weeks away from folding up my DP tent and moving to Nuendo when DP 4.5 came out. It does not automatically handle delay from analog devices (inserts) but it finally does automatic latency compensation for my UAD-1. I've been working with DP long enough that my whole studio looks like one big digital chain followed by one big analog chain (culminating into a Midas Verona 400), so the lack of analog inserts is not a problem.

If I were starting from scratch I'd probably give Nuendo a very hard look (or perhaps Cubase as a previous poster suggested), but DP has been reasonably enough with MacOS 10.3.8 that I'm no longer thinking about dumping it. And the new consolidated window really is a huge improvement over the too-many-windows problems of the past.

One thing that I really miss in DP, and keeps me thinking about alternatives, is that presently DP sucks for [Live Recording] -> [Rough Mix] -> [Indexed CD]. It does the first step just fine, but the second step requires painful manual conversion steps that basically make it unuseable from an amount-of-time perspective. A dedicated CD recorder fed by a DP monitor output is likely the best solution, but it just sucks that there's no one-step process to write tracks to a CD from audio that's been decorated with appropriate markers.
