Look, I don't care what you charge your "friends". I have friends that use my facility for free sometimes. What I don't do is advertise that my facility is free. These "Future Producers", the ones working with some crappy usb microphone and cracked software, do sometimes advertise and they've been telling the public that they should only pay $15 for a recording studio. If I actually charged that I would be out of business in a week.
During the housing bubble, 1 out of every 20 working people in the state of California was a real estate agent. 1 out of 20! You couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting a licensed real estate agent. I got so sick of hearing about it.
On the flip side, seems like, oh, 1 out of every 3 people I meet just happens to be a Producer, Label Owner, Engineer or Studio Owner - most of these people can't tie their shoe laces. It embarrasses me to no end because I actually take a lot of pride in what I do. Furthermore, I believe that the skill set needed to become a good engineer is no less difficult or time consuming than that needed to become a doctor or lawyer. Unless, of course, you are a Future Producer, then you can just proclaim yourself to be a record label, producer, CEO or whatever fantasy name you wish to give yourself.
Is there something wrong with you? Well, you are posting on gearslutz. . .
