Well, I HAVE used a rectifier many times and managed to get decent results, but in my experience (not hype - I actually thought i was alone on this before I heard similar opinions on this forum!), it usually takes a lot of fuss and even though it sounds 'good', it's not quite where I want it. I always have to fool around with it for a while, where as I can get an awesome sound coming from a 5150 in about 5 minutes.
I'm not trying to say they're useless, but for me, they're pretty low on the list.
