They are completely different. I think the Bogner is more refined and it has almost no sharp edges. (there are some on the clean channel with the gain all the way up, I don't think that sounds pretty, this has been 'fixed' in the Classic version).
Also a lot of people comment that the Bogner has sortof a 'blanket over the speaker' sound, which might be true, but what is also true is that you can put your ears (or microphone) right on the speaker axis and still have a tone which is not harsh instead of using some Weber beam blockers...
But if after a while playing on the Bogner switch on the Mesa, I can still appreciate what it does. Like I said, it's totally different. |
Ditto with this quote, except that I have a Mark IV and a 101a...
The Mesa seems more suited to rhythm work, for its tightness, and the Bogner better for lead work, due to its creaminess.
Neither brand would be better, just "different."
