I'm going back and forth between a U195 and R121 as well, (but leaning toward the r-121.)

Here's what I have:
2x C414 xlii
c42 matched pair
2x sm57
sm58
aea r84
pro37r
d112
md421

pres:
SCA 2xA12, 2xN72
Hamptone tube
Sytek w/BB

I'm going to be recording a band "live" in the near future into an 002 Rack.

The band, which is cat power-esque, consists of, Elec Guitar, Bass and Drums, (track vox later).

If I go the R121 route:
I'd like to use a R121 on the guitar and the r84 as a Kick mic, 421 on bass, OR the d112 on kick, a Royer on the guitar and the R84 on the bass.

If I go the u195 route:
U195 on bass, r84 on guitar and d112 on kick, OR u195 on kick, r84 on guitar and 421 on bass.

For vocals (without the U195), the 414s should work, and if not, the 421 or the r84 would be a good counterpoint choice....right?.

After this band, I'll be recording another setup with the same instrumentation plus an organ.

advice?
