Generally there isn't much problem putting a dither plug after your maximizer if it doesn't have one. It must go last in any chain, immediately prior to truncation. No exceptions.
If you do SRC post-maximization you can get overs, so set your output threshold to -0.3dbFS or -0.5 if you're the type that is terrified of a few intersample peaks (which I really don't think are a problem...even a few overs aren't a problem here and there...glass mastering facilities haven't sent discs back for having overs in years).
