Kick and Tom Mic Audio Samples

I've just spent the entire day rearranging my studio to accomodate all new mics and a bunch of new Pre's.

So I was trying to decide on Kick and Tom Mics to keep and what to send back.

In the process, I printed a few bars of each mic so I could listen to it in my car and at home.

I figured some of you may be curious to hear the mics so I'm letting anyone who cares listen to them.

It might be helpful. It might not.

Anyway, there are three folders on the site. Kick, Rack Tom and Floor Tom.

They are all 16 bit Stereo AIFF files for the picky amongst us.

All the files are close miked with the named mic along with a fair amount of Overheads mixed in. A bit of Reverb was added too.

Please, no opinions about how you wished I did "Blank".

If this is not helpful to you, than please don't download the files.

The Kick mics were placed a bit off-center, right where the second head would be. That head was removed. There was a blanket in the drum.

There are 2 versions for the Kick Mics. Flat and with EQ.

The EQ was different for each mic but I basically cut a chunk out of the low mids on the EQ'ed one. I changed freq to my taste.

All of the tom mics have EQ. I didn't want to choose a mic based on EQ, so I tried to make them sound similar. All the EQ choices were done in less than 5-10 seconds.

All of the mics were going thru my Brent Averill Neve 1272. The Overheads are Oktava MK012's going thru a pair of API's. All of the A/D conversion was a Digidesign 192. And it was all recorded into Pro Tools.

Enjoy.
