| I have the the 'studio' version of the S2800 which I think is the same except it came with 8 megs RAM, SCSI, and digital i/o.
It's a pretty cool sampler - it's a main staple in my studio along with an Ensoniq SD1. I almost never use it for loops as I don't really use loops in my production. It has great punchiness for drums, which is what I mainly use it for.
As for the modular synthesizer thing, yes, it does this very well. It actually boots up with sine, square, pulse, triangle and sawtooth waves if I'm not mistaken. I have made many a moog-ish synth sound on that thing. More so though, I sample weird sounds and use the s2800 to turn them into instruments.
If you don't have a good general sampler, I'd keep the S2800. If you already have a good general sampler, then sell it. |
