When it comes to preamps, it's a matter of opinion. Others should jump in here.
What I can say is
1: They are the best mic preamps yamaha has ever made
2: They hold their own with many pres costing many times more than they cost.
3: When you use 3 or 4 different pres in a mix, you can sometimes get undesirable results, the n12 will alway keep the tracking and the mix clean, open and in phase.
