You can use a dc-dc inverter with some filtering across the +/- rails like BAE does or just use a second power supply for 48vdc.
Also, anyone wanting to DIY one should look for SSL Tech's (I think it was his) power supply schematic. It's easy to build, has 48v and can be made +/-15v, +/-18v or whatever. And of course, JLM audio has very nice kits ready to go.
