I always record at 32bit simply because I've got the disk space and from what I've understood from my discussions with Steinberg, there is virtually no chance of digital overs (as long as you are still careful of course). To me, nothing ruins a great performance more than one chord peaking an over. Honestly, I don't know all the math behind this but it doesn't hurt to be careful.
