No you pay for the new version update and new plugin added into the bundle. That is, if you don't need it, why do you care paying the money?
The reason behind WUP is they want you to buy the big bundle, the bigger you buy, the more you save.

ZDT of ilok.com doesn't cover lost/stolen protection, all they do is to submit a prove that your ilok is stolen/lost, and software developer is the one who decide whether they want to replace the license for you, which, in most cases, won't replace the license for free.
I think WUP is great especially since the launch of V6, a lot of improvements have been done. Perhaps you need to rethink about WUP thing?
It's all down to your final decision though, nobody can force you to accept something you don't like about.
