I have a G4 that was driving me crazy. Turned out that the noise was coming from the hard drive. I installed a new disk (like this: http://www.westerndigital.com/en/pro...asp?DriveID=66 ) and the noise was reduced by probably 60-70%. I just didnt realise that all that noise was coming from the disk.
