You'll be better off making sure that you are using preamps meant to accept line level ohm and gain wise. Part of what makes neve stuff cool is the inductor based eq and you'd probably be better off using stuff that imparts a cool tone and is functional like an 1176, 1073 or something for the application you are talking. Any sort of line level you add to a signal is going to degrade the signal. Neve stuff happens to do so in a cool sounding way but it's still relativley subtle compared to what you can do with an EQ or Compressor.
