Thanks for the replies. I purchased the SM7 for use on both loud, raspy punk rock vocals as well as the kick drum. It may have been encouraged by online informants, but I don't necessarily think it's at all hyped. Also, I often record in situations where it is nearly impossible to eliminate all outside noises, and it does a great job isolating the source. In the end, you have to start somewhere/try new items yourself, right?
