I've been sitting on the fence for a while procrastinating but I'm at the point where I need to take the plunge. I've already decided on the N12, just need to mate a laptop to it. I've been looking at the custom made-for-audio PC models but if there are off-the-shelf models that are running with no issues I don't see why I shouldn't try one. I realize that, at least from what I've read, the N12 requires the TI chipset for firewire but I think the plug-in firewire card is a workaround for that, right?

Just remember that you may need a 1394 card in addition. Many of the Mother Board versions are not compatible .... and..... before you ask which one?....... too many variations to know.
