You have more learning to do, then. Cubase has always done this, since Atari days.

You can change the default behaviour of tracks by going to file/preferences/editing and selecting "musical" in the "default track time type" dropdown.

You will also see a little icon like a clock in the inspector for the track. Click on this and it will change to a crotchet, indicating that the track is in musical mode.
