I agree that the old generation of de-essers is showing its age -- and unfortunately the UAD version, to which I just activated the trial period, is in this category.
The new generation is pretty damned exciting. The Eiosis is kind of
amazing. It's expensive, for a single plug, at least to
my budget, but it's astonishingly flexible. The demo is absolutely saving my ass on a voiceover project I'm hip-deep in at the moment, and on which the earlier generation plugs just don't work at all without dampening the sound unacceptably, even at their lightest settings.
I'm going to take a look at the Sonnox before I commit though.
