If you are stepping up from 20/20, I don't think you need more extended low end, maybe slightly, but the point is in more acurate bas... well more accurate everything.

The problems with muddyness could be related with painfull 2-6KHz that events have. You may compensate that with 200-300Hz mud in order to make mixes to sound "smoother". That acompanied with low resolution and scooped sounding mids... ahh... to say it shortly, your problems might be elsewhere than you think.

In my exp. something like P33-A would be nice step up. I don't know genelecs or dynaudio or PMC though.
