I understand what you mean...

I used tomix on a 4000E then a 4000G
I did many many records on them...
I use sometimes a 9000j or K.
But in my room I switched to a VR60.
the ssl 384 or alan smart "squeeze" the sound a bit too much...
I am looking for a nice "tubey" kind of sound.

Did you have a chance to ear the Greg Hanks BA660 ?
Info as well....I am not really into the tubetech brand.
Maybe you can help me a bit better with those info ?
