I've become somewhat dissatisfied by my convo reverb lately. I feel like I can really hear a peculiar texture to it that sounds odd and artificial. In some funny way it reminds me of how vocals sound when they're abused by clumsy Autotune use.

But then I go back to my more conventional reverbs (among them Lexicon Pantheon, a very flexible 'verb from Sonitus, other plugs, as well as hardware reverbs from Lexicon, Digitech, Alesis) and I'm also dissatisfied for different reasons.

Having used more than a few plate reverbs, I can't say I've ever been all that sold on the sounds that come out of plate 'verbs, either. And, let's face it, a send and pickup to a real chamber is not always so great, either.

Short of recording in the space you want your tracks to sound like they're recorded in, I'd say it's all a devil's bargain.

[And having used a number of spring 'verbs -- and owning my own Orban -- I'd have to say that I hate spring reverbs for anything but a spring reverb sound. For me, spring reverb is only suitable for classic guitar sounds at this point.]
