What I dislike about this asshat Timbo is this:
- He makes millions on this stuff, and yet refuses to pay anyone even minimal amounts.
- His attitude surround it has always been one of a complete dick. With the C64 thing he made some statements that they'd have to come to the US and try to sue him... saying that he was "king" and that he couldn't be brought down. What ****ing arrogance.
- He doesn't participate in anything community oriented. This is a big make/break thing for me in whether I like and respect people quite often. He doesn't post anywhere online, he makes himself inaccessible. Other producers, engineers, etc make themselves available. George Massenburg has sold more CDs and he is easy to contact online. Butch Vig was posting here the other day (Nevermind sold more copies than anything that Timbo will ever make). He hasn't appeared in TapeOp, he just sits around having his "Ghost Producers" do shit for him and makes himself inaccessible.
Here's the thing, he could work-around much of this by just recording musicians playing something similar but not exactly the same. The chance for suit/complaint would be almost zero. But he doesn't want to pay for studio musicians. Dre records lots of instruments in the studio, so don't start crying, "But hip-hop is only about sampling!"
