| Very simple.
External Filter means each time you wanna change the filter type you will have to turn the machine off, replace the cartridge which is stored at the back of unit, then turn on again.
Internal filters means you can change filter type without having to turn off or remove a cartridge. All controls are dealt with on the front panel.
