first of all thank you for sharing all this info!! and congratulation for the great work with SR
Reading back this really interesting thread I have some questions:
- About Vocal compression (the vox is great), just curious if you have checked STC8 for a similar use of Distressor (really different dynamics from -20 GR at extreme compression at louder parts to light comp in the soft passage). If yes what do you think?
- I have seen that you compress 3/4 db with STC8...during mix do you usually use to compress lightly the single tracks and then press the Stc8 considering his 'transparent' feature?
- STC: do you use always in dual mono setting? Why? Do you prefer usually the ki mode?
- I'm not so familiar with Massive Passive so I cannot compare, but when I have seen the settings (that should be more or less: 80 hz shelf boost - 800 bell boost - 4.7 khz bell boost - 6 khz shelf boost) I was surprise to see the 800 boost and above all the gain values that seem very high about 8/10 db. Some comments? Does it often happen?
- I have seen that you use more mics for kick and bass...in which freq do you have usually the crossover points (if you have of course) for them? Do you cut some very low end (20/40 hz) when tracking or mixing?
- Some particular treatment for the guitars in the low mid part?
- Do you usually record at 24bit and? 44.1 or 96
