If you want latency free, then you will need a summing amp or mixer, and once you come out of the box, you will need to stay there until your 2-track mixdown.
If you want latency compensation, with external insert and AUX loops, I have had great luck with Cubase 4, which let's you ping your outboard to figure out the i/o latency, then it is automatically compensated for.
