If it feels good pounding my kit "too" hard that is all the reason I need. If I want my record to sound like I sound when I pound the **** out of my kit because it feels good; then that is all the reason I need.
There is no error. If I want to make a record that sounds like I sat back and pondered, "Hmm... yes... yes, this would make for a big drum sound." I will. I want to play hard, and I want to sound like I play hard.
Nirvana is a fine example.
