I'll just add to what Glenn already said: you can't mix what you can't hear. It's an old axiom, but it's true. The best monitoring chain in the world won't do you a lick of good if your room is lying to you. Of course, the best option is a balanced approach with a properly treated room *and* a fantastic monitoring chain.
