Having a 2K projector and no 35mm playback is fine. I know many rooms here in Hollywood that don't have 35mm Film Playback and Dolby does Print Masters in the rooms. Very true, but every time I ask Dolby about the necessity of a 35mm projector they say that I need to have at least the capability to check a printmaster in our room, hence the need for the projector or at least a sound follower with an optical reader. I must say that most of the Dolby stages here have 35mm projection, but hardly any have a functionnal optical head to read an SR or SR-D print...
Maybe things will change soon enough.
